Description: Biennial to zone 6, aka Clear Eye (not to be confused with Eyebright in the Orobanchaceae family). This is a beautiful, somewhat exotic looking plant with many traditional and culinary uses. In the kitchen the leaves are used for flavoring egg dishes, jellies, teas and many other thigns. It has traditionally been used as an eye wash, to clean wounds, for digestive difficulties, and a panoply of other uses. The essential oil is used as fragrance in soaps and cosmetics. The flowers have been used to flavor wines and beers. Full sun, average soil. Will flower the second year.
Guidelines: Growing: Direct seed or transplant in spring after soil has warmed. It prefers full sun and slightly moist conditions. Flowers in second year and readily self-seeds. Days to emergence: 12-15. Soil temperature: 65-70?.
