Green Arrow Shelling Pea and Mammoth Melting Sugar Snow Pea Artwork
Joanne Frances Dewald of Riverside, New Jersey was selected to design the artwork for our Green Arrow Shelling Pea and Snow Pea seed packets.
Why did you choose the medium you used for the packet design?
In 2010 I suddenly found myself with lots of time on my hands when my 22-year job from just out of college ended. I was a graphic designer and getting away from working on the computer for awhile was appealing. I used to do bookbinding and love working with paper. I kept seeing an artist on Facebook who worked with paper. She was my inspiration. One day, in the fall of that year, I said “I’m gonna make a paper pumpkin,” and I did. For some reason I kept doing flowers and vegetables. It seemed a perfect fit for a seed packet.
What is your favorite flower and why?
My favorite flower scent is hyacinth but I think hydrangea is my favorite flower. The whites, greens, purples and blues. Prettiest flower, prettiest colors.
Do you have anything else you want to share with potential customers?
My last name, DeWald, means “of the forest.” Maybe that’s why I connect best with natural things from the earth.
