Yarrow is a perennial that prefers well-drained soil, but is tolerant of many different soil types. Choose a site with full sun to partial shade. Yarrow grows like a ground cover over time, so pick a spot where it will have room to spread out.
Seeds germinate best if cold stratified for one month prior to planting. Seeds can be started indoors or direct sow outdoors in early spring. Sow seeds 4-6" apart on soil surface and press lightly to settle. Seeds will sprout in 20-45 days. Thin seedlings so that mature plants are 12-24" apart.
Plants do well with low to moderate amounts of water. Drought and heat tolerant once established.
Harvest above ground parts by cutting in mid-late summer during flowering.
Parts can be used fresh or dry. Store dried plants in a cool dark place.
Yarrow seed matures in summer/fall. Seed is ready to harvest when the flowers have dried brown. Store seeds in a cool, dry place for up to 2 years.
