Cucumis sativus

A crispy, crunchy cucumber that doesn’t get bitter! 6-9″ long green, smooth and nearly spineless fruit grow on sturdy vines. Use for slicing, snacking and pickling. Mosaic resistant.
These crisp juicy fruits seem to sit around lazily on the ground, just waiting to plucked because nothing quenches the thirst on a hot day in late July quite like a cucumber. While most people are familiar with the common dark green slicer cukes, they actually come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and even colors. Any cucumber can be pickled, but some varieties are bred for uniformity and girth and are specifically labeled for pickling. Slicers, which are mostly eaten fresh, are thinner and longer with some that can even grow up to two feet if given the opportunity. Nutrients: vitamins A, C, K, B6, folate, thiamin, potassium, magnesium.

I am a beginner to gardening and grew these last year. I have a small amount of gardening space and the couple of plants I grew produced just enough for us to eat and were delicious! I can’t wait to grow them again this year.

    (verified owner):

I have been trying different cucumber varieties for the piedmont NC area for several summers. In years past, the vines would come on strong, look healthy in June and shrivel up by July. This year I planted the “Muncher” variety. I am in a 4′ by 6′ space, I am getting more cucumbers than I can possibly eat and the vines are holding up through late July heat. While I used to peal the skins from my cucumbers, this variety has very thin skin with no spines. I can wash and eat them directly. I think I have finally found the cucumber for me.
