This biennial grows in full sun to shade and prefers moist, rich soils. In the south, plants prefer afternoon shade.
Direct sow outdoors in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked. Sow seeds 1/4" deep and 4-6" apart. Optimal soil temperature for germination is 65-80˚F. Seeds will sprout in 14-28 days. Thin seedlings so that mature plants are 12-18" apart.
