Course Description:
Seed starting is an affordable way to grow many healthy plants that are adapted to your climate for your garden. Once you know the basics, it is a very easy and incredibly rewarding process! Come learn the different methods of seed starting for flowers, vegetables, and herbs, and the tools and techniques that make for strong and healthy seedlings.
We will learn the process of soil blocking, what soils are best for seed starting, the benefits of heat mats and grow lights, how to make a few simple types of cold frames, what stratification is and the importance of it, and why we harden off and thin seedlings. Start your seedlings early to maximize your harvest season!
Instructor Bio:
Frankie Larson (they/he) is a Western North Carolina plant nerd and a big fan of regenerative growing practices. They have been rehabilitating a small plot of land in Candler, NC and growing native flowers and grasses to spread around the Asheville area. They write articles about seed saving and regenerative growing practices, and have been working to convince people to turn their non-native lawns into native bio-diverse havens for almost a decade.
