Allium tricoccum

**Ramps are a pre-order item and quantities are limited.  Ramps will ship in September.**

Our ramps are cultivated by a trusted farmer here in Asheville, NC. Our hope is that you can establish your own patch and relieve some of the burden on this over-harvested wild food. We will receive the bulbs and then ship them to you in September/October with a full planting guide.

Ramps are a native plant found growing in moist woodlands of the Appalachian mountain range in eastern North America. They begin growth from a small bulb and spread and colonize over time. The leaves emerge in early spring, but the plants are ephemeral, disappearing within a month or two and remaining dormant until the following spring. Leaves are an elongated oval shape that tapers to a point. They resemble lily of the valley leaves, although a bit slimmer.

Ramps have a flower stalk that tends to emerge as the leaves are fading. The flowers are a pinkish-white, and the seed is dispersed close to the mother plant.

  • Sun Exposure: Shade to partial shade
  • Soil Type: Loamy
  • Soil pH: 6.8 to 7.2
  • Bloom Time: Spring
  • Hardiness Zones: 4 to 7

  • Plant your bulbs in a place that will be your dedicated ramps bed, and allow them to mature and spread before harvesting. Bulbs shouldn't be harvested until they reseed at approximately 7 years of age. Always leave back enough plants to allow your bed to continue to reproduce.

Note: we have two age ranges for sale.

    • One is a mix of younger bulbs, which will take some time to establish before being harvestable. These are listed as 1yr bulbs (but there could be a mix of older ones in there).
    • The second listing will be 6 year bulbs, all of which should be primed for harvest within a year or two of transplanting.

We have a limited quantity of both sets of bulbs.
