Four O'Clocks Seeds - Broken Colors - Sow True Seed

Four O'Clocks Seeds - Broken Colors

$3.25

Mirabilis jalapa

These unusual and very pretty Four O’Clocks have bicolored and mottled flowers in shades of red, pink, white, and yellow that open in late afternoon and stay open all night. Lots of pollinators, including hummingbirds and night-flying moths love them. Perennial.

To keep your Four O’Clocks from spreading, plant them in a container and collect their seed pods at the end of the year. If you want to move or propagate them, you can dig up the tubers in winter and re-plant them elsewhere, similar to dahlias.

When to Seed Four O’Clocks

This perennial flower should be transplanted or direct seeded into the garden once all danger of frost has passed.

Where to Plant Four O’Clocks

This flower will need full sun and will prefer loose, well-draining soil that is rich in nutrients. It can grow two to four feet tall, so keep this in mind when choosing a location.

Growing Four O’Clocks

Sow seeds ¼ inch deep and six to eight inches apart, being ready to thin your seedlings to their mature planting distance of 24 to 36 inches. This perennial will flower in the second year. It will readily reseed and spread.

Harvesting Four O’Clocks

Four O’Clocks can be harvested for cut flowers or left to mature in the garden to benefit the many pollinators it supports.
