Ordering, Shipping & Return Policy

HOW TO ORDER

We accept orders via our online store and over the phone*. Online orders must be paid using a credit card or other online payment processor (PayPal, ShopPay, etc.). 

Phone orders may be paid for using a credit card or by mailing in a check after the order has been placed and confirmed. Please note, orders placed over the phone and paid for by check will not ship until the check is received and deposited.

*To place a phone order, please follow the phone menu and leave a message when directed, we will get back to you as soon as we can (generally within one to two business days). We appreciate your patience. Leaving multiple voicemails will not result in a faster return call.

PRE ORDERS

PRE-ORDER TERMS & CONDITIONS

Pre-orders are advance purchases of products that will be available or scheduled to ship at a later date based on availability.

Pre-orders require payment to be made at checkout. Items available for pre-order will have their own availability or shipping window based on estimates provided by our suppliers. These dates are estimates only and not guaranteed, we do our best to keep these dates as accurate as possible and update them as needed. Current estimated shipping windows are listed below but can also be found on the product page of each pre-order item. 

Note: We do not offer specific ship dates based on the customer's availability, preference or growing zone. Please check on the recommended planting times for your zone before ordering these products.

If your order includes both in stock items and pre-order items you may receive your order in multiple shipments. In stock items generally ship within one to three business days while pre-order items will ship in their availability window. This may result in additional shipping charges unless your order qualifies for a free shipping promotion. 

All order and shipping updates will be sent via email. Make sure your email address is correct before placing your order and check your email including your spam folder often to avoid missing important updates.

MODIFYING ORDERS

Once an order has been placed and confirmed online or over the phone it cannot be canceled, modified or altered. Be sure to review and confirm that all the information is correct before submitting your order.

Once an order has been shipped, it cannot be modified or cancelled. If you would like to return or exchange your items, please see our return and exchange policy.

SHIPPING OUTSIDE OF THE US

Canada

Orders to Canada cannot be placed online and must be placed over the phone. We can only ship seed packets to Canada. The cost of shipping an order to Canada is a flat rate of $25, and all orders will be shipped USPS. We are unable to ship to Canada through UPS or any other mail service. Please note, seeds certified USDA Organic in the US are not certified organic by Canadian standards. Customers are responsible for all taxes or customs fees your country may levy beyond our flat shipping rate.

US Territories 

Orders to US territories may be placed online and will be shipped via USPS. We can only ship seed packets to US Territories.

Other Countries 

We are unable to ship orders to foreign countries other than Canada at this time. Please be aware that third-party mailing services that forward packages internationally may reject packages containing seeds due to international regulations on shipping biological material. If you attempt to ship an order internationally through a third party and this occurs, we are unable to issue a refund.

LOCAL PICKUP

If you live in the Asheville, NC area and would like to pick up your order instead of having it shipped directly to you, please choose the option “Local Pick Up - ASHEVILLE, NC - will NOT Ship” at checkout. Once local pickup is selected it cannot be changed, we cannot ship local pickup orders. 

Please ensure you will be able to pick up your order before selecting this option, our shop is open Tuesday - Saturday from 10am to 5pm (except for holiday closures), if you cannot pick your order up during that time window please do not select this option.

Orders not picked up within 60 days of order placement will be donated to our community partners.

LOST OR STOLEN PACKAGES

If you believe your package has been lost or stolen, please check the tracking number provided in your shipping confirmation email to see the status of your delivery. If your package shows as delivered please check around your property to see if the package has been misplaced. If your package still cannot be located please contact us as soon as possible. 

FREE SHIPPING & SHIPPING COSTS

We offer a special shipping promotion in December - all orders receive free domestic shipping, all month long! Offer applies to domestic orders placed between December 1 - 31, 2026.After January 1st, all orders over $50 receive free domestic shipping. Free shipping promotions apply to in stock items only. No rainchecks.  For orders that are valued at $50 at retail price but are combined with sales, promotions, or discount codes that bring the cost below the $50 threshold, shipping charges will apply.Orders that do not qualify for free shipping will be charged a shipping rate based on weight, package size, and zip code and shipped USPS or UPS. The exception being Sweet potato slips which are always shipped via USPS Priority Mail or UPS Ground, due to the perishable nature of the slips. Shipping costs are determined by the mail carrier. We try to make shipping costs as affordable as possible with free shipping promotions throughout the year, however, we appreciate your understanding regarding our lack of control over the costs of shipping.

REFUNDS, RETURNS, AND EXCHANGES

We accept returns of seeds and mushroom plugs within 14 days of purchase for a full refund minus the cost of return shipping, if applicable.

We accept returns of unopened, unused durable goods such as tools and supplies for any reason within 30 days of purchase for a full refund minus the cost of return shipping, if applicable.

We are unable to accept returns of bulbs, tubers, crowns, or other live plant material for any reason. These items are final sale. 

If an item you purchased from us is found to be defective or damaged upon receipt, we will fully refund or replace the item at no extra charge. In order to make an in-store return or exchange you must have your receipt or order number with you. Please contact us to arrange a return, refund, or exchange by emailing info@sowtrue.com or calling 828-254-0708. 

Please note that in order to get a refund for a ticket to a class or event at Sow True Seed, you must contact us at least 72 hours ahead of the scheduled class or event time. Any requests for refunds in the 72 hours before the scheduled class time will not be granted.

SHIPPING AND TRANSIT TIME

Orders ship out in the order that they are received. We do our best to ship out orders as quickly as possible. Generally, orders containing in-stock products will generally ship within one to three business days. Orders do not ship on weekends or holidays. Please note that during peak season (January through April) the shipping lead time may increase due to order volume. We ask that you allow for additional time to receive your order. Up to date order fulfillment lead time will be posted on the top banner of the website home page. Customers have the option to select USPS Priority or UPS Next Day Air Saver  for expedited shipping at an additional cost.

All orders are shipped by the United States Postal Service or UPS. We cannot guarantee transit times. All transit times vary by season. In order to receive tracking information for your order, you must provide a valid email address. All tracking information is sent via email. 

A Note on Transit Times for 2026: 

We are currently experiencing delays and routing issues with packages sent via USPS. We typically fulfill orders within one to three business days, excluding any preorder items. However, once a package is picked up by USPS and leaves our warehouse, its delivery timeline is outside of our control. 

We have recently noticed that packages are being mis-routed, experiencing delays, and displaying incorrect tracking information. Unfortunately these issues are occurring more and more frequently as sorting and distribution facilities are no longer located in Asheville and packages are sent to facilities in Greenville, SC or Charlotte, NC to be processed. Additionally, packages are held at the post office overnight before being sent out, furthering delays.

USPS helps us keep shipping costs low and allows us to offer free shipping to eligible orders. For these reasons, we will continue to ship with them. We absolutely understand the frustration you are experiencing, and we are committed to helping solve shipping issues and getting your seeds to you. If you are experiencing delays with a shipment, please contact our customer service team at info@sowtrue.com. While many of these issues are out of our control, we will do everything in our power to make it right. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

RECEIVING YOUR ORDER

Once you receive your order, open the package and inspect your order for damage and accuracy. Inside your package you will find a packing slip with a list of the package contents, if there are any discrepancies or damage, please contact us immediately. Please do not discard any items or packaging until you’ve contacted us. Packages containing pre-order items (i.e. live plants and bulbs) must be opened immediately due to their perishable nature. We cannot guarantee the quality of live plants and bulbs that are not opened immediately.
