Bachelor Button (Citrullus lanatus)

A tall, brilliant blue, resilient flower. Plants grow 2-3' high and tolerate a range of growing conditons. Easy-to-grow, cut and dry.

How to Grow Bachelor Button from Seed

Bed Preparation

Bachelor button is a cool season annual that prefers full sun to partial shade and will tolerate average, well-drained soils. Drought tolerant once established.

Planting

Direct sow outdoors around the last frost date or start seed indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Optimal soil temperature for germination is 70°F. Sow seeds 1/4" deep and 3-6" apart. Seeds will germinate in 7-14 days. Thin seedlings to 6-12" apart.

Harvest

Bachelor button flowers in summer. Harvest cut flowers anytime during this flowering period. Leave a few flowers to set seed and bachelor button will readily re-seed.
