Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare)

A flowering herbaceous plant with yellow, button-like flowers. Blooming in mid to late summer when everything else has finished, Tansy is a hardy perennial with a long history of medicinal and natural insecticidal properties.

How to Grow Tansy from Seed

Bed Preparation

Tansy is a hardy perennial that prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established.

Planting

Start seed indoors in spring and transplant outdoors once the danger of frost has passed. Sow seeds 1/8" deep and 4-6" apart. Seeds germinate best when soil temps are 65-80°F. Seeds will sprout in 21-28 days. Thin seedlings so that mature plants are 12-18″ apart.

Harvest

Harvest above ground parts anytime during the growing season. Flowers and leaves are used dried in floral arrangements and potpourri.
