Dandelion is an annual that prefers full sun or partial shade and is adaptable to most soil types.
Dandelion can be direct seeded outdoors in spring after the last frost and in fall 6 weeks before the first frost. Optimal soil temperatures for germination are 65-75°F. Sow seeds on soil surface and press lightly to settle. Seeds will germinate in 7-21 days. Thin seedlings so mature plants are 4-6" apart in rows 12-18" apart.
Harvest dandelion leaves when young. Plant maturity and high temperatures make leaves bitter. Dandelion roots can be harvested one year after planting.
