Hyacinth Bean Seeds - Purple

$3.25

Lablab purpureus

Vigorous vines are at home in the garden where they tolerate drought, heat, and humidity. Dark green leaves and purple stems contrast beautifully with lovely sprays of pink-purple flowers followed by shiny, burgundy pods from summer until frost. The flowers are good for cutting, and the pods dry nicely for everlasting arrangements. Not for eating, the pods and beans contain toxins. Annual. Full Sun. Bloom Period: Late Summer, Fall

Butterfly pea is an annual that prefers full sun to partial shade and rich, well-drained soil with moderate moisture.

Cultivation

For best germination, nick the hard seed coat prior to planting. Direct seed outdoors in early spring. Plants will tolerate a light frost. Optimum soil temperature for germination is 65-80˚F. Sow 1" deep and 3" apart. Seeds will sprout in 10-21 days. Thin so mature plants are 6-12" apart.

To reduce disease, avoid overhead watering and do not plant legumes in the same location year after year.
