Sweet pea is a cool season annual that prefers full sun to partial shade and rich, well-drained soil with moderate moisture.

Cultivation

For best germination, nick the hard seed coat prior to planting. Direct seed outdoors in early spring. Plants will tolerate a light frost. Optimum soil temperature for germination is 65-80˚F. Sow 1" deep and 3" apart. Seeds will sprout in 10-21 days. Thin so mature plants are 6-12" apart.

To reduce disease, avoid overhead watering and do not plant legumes in the same location year after year.
