Sweet Pea Seed - Royal Family Mix

$3.25

Lathyrus odoratus

A favorite of hummingbirds, Royal Family sweet peas are a hardy old-time flower variety that is well-loved for their easy-to-grow, sweet smelling, multi-colored blossoms. Sweet peas love cool, moist weather and can be planted very early. 6-foot plants should be trellised or be allowed to cascade over hanging baskets. Don't eat them though! All parts of the sweet pea plant are poisonous. Do not plant them anywhere near edible peas, to avoid any mixups. Full sun. Annual.

Sweet pea is a cool season annual that prefers full sun to partial shade and rich, well-drained soil with moderate moisture.

Cultivation

For best germination, nick the hard seed coat prior to planting. Direct seed outdoors in early spring. Plants will tolerate a light frost. Optimum soil temperature for germination is 65-80˚F. Sow 1" deep and 3" apart. Seeds will sprout in 10-21 days. Thin so mature plants are 6-12" apart.

To reduce disease, avoid overhead watering and do not plant legumes in the same location year after year.
