Gourd Packet Art

Kim LaBroad of Winston-Salem, North Carolina was selected to design the artwork for our Birdhouse Bottle and Luffa Gourd seed packets.

What is your favorite vegetable to grow and why?

Growing up, my grandfather had a large farm and I remember the many vegetables he grew. The most interesting, by far, was the gourd. I love the multitude of uses it has, sponges for bathing and cleaning, houses for animals, art pieces, decorations, spoons, bowls, cups, food, and etc. Not only are they so useful but they are interesting to look at and I have thought so ever since the days back in my grandfather’s farm. They just take me to great memories and I love creating with them.

Why were you excited about this project?

I felt this was out of my usual art field of surrealism and gallery works. This seemed fun to me and for a great reason, growth! I loved doing this project and would definitely do more with Sow True Seed Company, as they were so great to work with.
