Mustard Greens Seed Packets

Artist and illustrator Linda Santell of Reidsville, North Carolina was selected to design the artwork for our Mustard Greens seed packets.

What is your favorite vegetable to eat and why?

I would have to say eggplant for so many reasons. It is a vegetable that connects me to my heritage and around which I have so many warm memories. Growing up in an Italian household, eggplant was always present and used in a variety of dishes. Whenever I eat eggplant, memories come flooding back of being in the kitchen with my mother cooking up a storm. She was one great and messy cook! It is no wonder food is so often found in my art.

Why were you excited about this project?

First, I love to illustrate food, especially fresh herbs and veggies, along with other natural forms inspired by earth’s beauty and bounty. They are the most frequent subjects of my illustration. I incorporate them into my note cards, prints and fabric designs. Also, it was an honor to have the opportunity to use my art in service to a company whose mission I admire. It was also a way to connect with like-minded folks while gaining some exposure for my art. Plus, I enjoy participating in mutually-enhancing relationships anchored in a collaborative spirit.
