Forget-me-not Seeds

$3.25

Myosotis sylvatica

A quintessential cottage garden flower! These cute blue and yellow flowers have clusters of five-petaled blooms on stems that reach no higher than two feet tall. Often found growing near creeks and streams, forget-me-nots love moisture and are a great option for shady locations in the garden. They make a great cut flower and forget-me-nots preserve their color when pressed in a flower press.

Direct seed in early spring or transplant into the garden after all danger of frost has passed. Forget-me-nots need full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Water well to ensure good germination. Once germinated, they need at least one inch of water per week. Pinch fading blooms to encourage growth and reblooms. Perennial in zones four through eight.

How to Plant Forget-Me-Not Seeds

If direct sowing forget-me-not seeds outside, water your space well then lightly sow seeds into the surface. Cover very lightly with potting mix or compost and press lightly to ensure seed-to-soil contact. Keep the area moist until seeds germinate, which will happen in a few days if the soil is warm enough.

To start indoors, sow forget-me-not seeds in high quality, seed starting material. Scatter seeds evenly on the moist soil surface, then cover lightly with soil. Keep soil moist (but not wet) and warm (60°F and 65°F) in bright, indirect light near a window or under a grow lamp. Once the weather is consistently above 65°F during the day and all danger of frost has passed, transplant the seedlings outside.

How to harvest Forget-Me-Not seeds?

Forget-Me-Nots bloom April through May. After blooming, let them go to seed on the plant. The seed pods will dry out and turn brown. When this happens, collect them in a bag. Gently run your fingers over the pods to break them apart and release the seeds, or shake the bag vigorously to do this. To easily separate the seeds from the chaff (excess plant matter), put all material in a bowl and blow gently on it while shaking the bowl, or do this in front of a fan. Dry process.
