Choosing your Planting Site

Marigolds are an annual flower that love full sun and can tolerate a wide range of growing conditions, including nutrient-poor soils. Consider choosing a spot tucked between other crops to attract pollinators and other beneficial insects.

When to Plant Marigold Seeds

Marigolds are frost sensitive so they should either be started indoors four to five weeks before your last frost and transplanted out after all danger of frost has passed, or direct seeded into the garden at this time. Marigolds can be planted throughout the frost-free growing season but be sure to consider the length of your season and the days to harvest information found on the seed packet.

How to Plant Marigold Seeds

Marigold seeds can be planted 1/4" deep and three to six inches apart. Keep your seeds well watered until germination. Either thin seedlings or transplant them out at their mature spacing distance of 12-18".
