Partridge Pea Seeds

$3.25

Chamaecrista fasciculata

Partridge Pea is a beautiful and ecologically important nitrogen-fixing flower species native to much of the Eastern US. Its cheery yellow flowers are much loved by bees and other pollinators, and it is the larval host for several native butterflies, including the Little Yellow, Sleepy Orange, and Orange Sulphur.  It is also known as “sensitive plant,” because its leaves fold up when touched.  The plants will grow to about two feet tall. They prefer dry soils and full sun or partial shade, and will self-reseed once established in favorable conditions.

Direct sow these seeds outdoors in late fall or winter, or cold stratify them in moist medium in the refrigerator for two weeks before planting outside in spring. Plants will bloom in mid to late summer. 2 gram packet contains a minimum of 180 seeds.
