When to Seed Violas

This annual flower should be direct seeded into the garden in early spring or transplanted once all danger of frost has passed.

Where to Plant Violas

This plant will appreciate a spot with partial shade or light shade, tucked between other plants is perfect. Loose, well-draining soil is ideal but this plant will tolerate a wide range of growing conditions.

Growing Violas

Sow seeds on the surface of the soil and three to six inches apart. Once mature, thin to six to 12 inches apart. Once established, these flowers are low maintenance and drought tolerant. Regularly deadheading spent blooms will result in a longer bloomtime and if left to go to seed, these plants will readily reseed.

Harvesting Violas

Edible flowers can be harvested to put on salad and in baked goods, simply deadhead just as the flowers open! They are also beautiful when pressed or dried.
