When to Seed Thyme

Thyme should be direct seeded outdoors in fall, or stratified indoors and sown in trays for transplanting after all danger of frost has passed. 

Where to Plant Thyme

This plant will appreciate a spot with full sun. Loose, well-draining soil is ideal but this plant will tolerate an extremely wide range of growing conditions. This perennial herb will come back year after year. 

Growing Thyme

Sow seeds on the surface of the soil and two to four inches apart. Once germinated, thin your seedlings to 12 to 20 inches apart.  

Harvesting Thyme

Thyme leaves can be harvested with sharp shears and used fresh or dried. Leaving the growing tips intact will result in continuous harvests.
