When to Seed Anise

This annual flower should be direct seeded into the garden in early spring or transplanted once all danger of frost has passed.

Where to Plant Anise

This plant will appreciate a spot with full sun. Loose, well-draining soil is ideal but this plant will tolerate a wide range of growing conditions.

Growing Anise

Sow seeds ¼ inch deep and three to four inches apart. Once mature, thin to 12 to 18 inches apart. When established, this herb is low maintenance.

Harvesting Anise

Leaves should be harvested before the plant flowers and can be used fresh or dried. The flowers can also be harvested and used as a cute flower or in teas. As the umbels start to seed, harvest while they’re still green but are starting to dry. Fully dry the umbels inside. As they continue to dry, the seeds will fall off of the umbels on their own.
