HEIRLOOM The Cherokee Trail of Tears bean memorializes the forced relocation of the Cherokee Indians in the mid-nineteenth century. They carried this bean throughout this infamous walk, which became the death march for over four thousand Cherokees; hence the Trail of Tears. In the face of its poignantly dismal history, the shiny, jet-black seeds are used with pride in many traditional American Indian dishes. The seeds are encased in six-inch, greenish-purple pods. Great as a snap bean, and the small attractive beans also have a delicious rich flavor when used as a dry bean.
Direct seed into the garden after all danger of frost has passed. Pole beans will need full sun and well-draining soil. Provide a trellis for these beans. Water well to ensure good germination. Once germinated, pole beans will need at least an inch of water per week. Consistently harvesting the pods will result in a long harvest window. Annual.
Minimum of 40 seeds per 14 gram packet.
