When to Seed Bee Balm

Bee balm should be direct seeded outdoors in fall, or stratified indoors and sown in trays for transplanting after all danger of frost has passed. This seed requires light to germinate, so if sowing indoors, ensure you’re providing grow lights.

Where to Plant Bee Balm

This plant will appreciate a spot with full sun. Loose, well-draining soil is ideal but this plant will tolerate an extremely wide range of growing conditions. This annual bloom tends to reseed and can reach one to two feet tall, so keep this in mind when choosing a location!

Growing Bee Balm

Sow seeds on the surface of the soil, three inches apart. Once germinated, thin your seedlings to 18 to 24 inches. Once established, this plant is quite drought tolerant.

Harvesting Bee Balm

Bee Balm can be harvested for cut flowers or left to mature in the garden to benefit the many butterfly and hummingbird species that are attracted to it.
