When to Seed Dill

This annual herb should be direct seeded or transplanted into the garden in early spring or late summer. It is a cool season herb, so keep that in mind when planning your garden!

Where to Plant Dill

This plant will appreciate a spot with full sun. Loose, well-draining soil is ideal but this plant will tolerate a wide range of growing conditions. It will also readily reseed year after year, so keep this in mind when choosing a planting location!

Growing Dill

Sow seeds ⅛ inch deep and four to six inches apart. Once mature, thin to eight to 12 inches apart, or more for mammoth varieties. When established, this herb is low maintenance.

Harvesting Dill

Dill leaves can be harvested using sharp shears and are best used fresh. Leave the growing tip intact so it regrows for multiple harvests. Once it bolts, leave the flowers to go to seed. Once dried, harvest the seed for use in cooking, teas, or replanting.
