When to Seed Cosmos

This annual flower should be transplanted or direct seeded into the garden once all danger of frost has passed.

Where to Plant Cosmos

This flower will need full sun and will prefer loose, well-draining soil, however, it is not super picky about its growing conditions. This flower grows two to three feet tall, so keep this in mind when choosing a location.

Growing Cosmos

Sow seeds ⅛ inch deep and four to six inches apart. Once mature, thin to 12 to 15 inches apart. This is a pretty low-maintenance crop, but regularly deadheading will result in more flowers. Once established, this flower is quite drought tolerant.

Harvesting Cosmos

Cosmos can be harvested for cut flowers or left to mature in the garden to benefit the many pollinator species it supports.
