Forget-me-not Seeds

$3.25

Myosotis sylvatica

A quintessential cottage garden flower! These cute blue and yellow flowers have clusters of five-petaled blooms on stems that reach no higher than two feet tall. Often found growing near creeks and streams, forget-me-nots love moisture and are a great option for shady locations in the garden. They make a great cut flower and forget-me-nots preserve their color when pressed in a flower press. Perennial in zones four through eight.

When to Seed Forget-Me-Nots

This flower should be transplanted or direct seeded into the garden once all danger of frost has passed.

Where to Plant Forget-Me-Nots

This flower will need full sun and will prefer loose, well-draining soil, however, it is not super picky about its growing conditions. It will come back year after year in cooler growing zones so keep this in mind when choosing a location.

Growing Forget-Me-Nots

Sow seeds 1/16 inch deep and two to four inches apart. Once mature, thin to four to six inches apart. This is a pretty low-maintenance crop, but regularly deadheading will result in more flowers.

Harvesting Forget-Me-Nots

Stems can be harvested for cut flowers using sharp shears, or left intact in the garden to attract bees and other pollinators.

How to Harvest Forget-Me-Not Seeds

Forget-Me-Nots bloom April through May. After blooming, let them go to seed on the plant. The seed pods will dry out and turn brown. When this happens, collect them in a bag. Gently run your fingers over the pods to break them apart and release the seeds, or shake the bag vigorously to do this. To easily separate the seeds from the chaff (excess plant matter), put all material in a bowl and blow gently on it while shaking the bowl, or do this in front of a fan. Dry process.
