Vates, Dwarf Blue Curled Scotch kale is a low-growing dwarf type with finely curled blue-green leaves. It's suitable for large containers or raised beds. It grows to 12-16 inches tall, and about 24 inches in diameter. Like most kale varieties, it's especially tender and sweet after a light frost. Vates, Dwarf Blue Curled Scotch kale is slow to bolt to seed great for seed saving. This vareity does great with over wintering and is cold hardy. It has been known to over winter in zones 4-5. 

Vates, Dwarf Blue Curled Scotch Kale seeds can be direct sown outdoors in early spring, four weeks before last frost, and in the fall, six weeks before the first frost. Vates, Dwarf Blue Curled Scotch Kale seeds can also be started indoors up to 10 weeks before the last frost and transplanted outside four to six weeks before the last frost. For direct seeding outdoors plant seeds 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep and space seeds one to three inches apart. Once seeds germinate thin seedlings to eight to 12 inches apart for mature spacing.
