Valeriana officinalis

Sweetly scented pink, yellow, or white flowers bloom on plants that reach three to five feet tall. Well known for its medicinal properties.

Direct seed in early spring or transplant into the garden after all danger of frost has passed. Valerian benefits from cold stratification. Requires light to germinate so gently press seeds into the soil without covering them. It will need full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Water well to ensure good germination. Once germinated, Valerian will need at least an inch of water per week. Typically grown for leaves and flowers. Perennial.
