Triticum aestivum

NuEast Red Winter Wheat is a modern winter wheat bred at NC State in 2009 to bring hard winter wheat production to the southeast. It is delicious in its whole form, with a delicate, nutty flavor. The berries themselves can be cooked al dente and used in salads, soups, or as a starch in any dish.

Direct seed into the garden in the fall for winter wheat. Wheat will need full sun and well-draining soil. Water well to ensure good germination. Once germinated, wheat will need at about an inch of water per week. Allow grains to dry on the plant and harvest when firm. Annual. 230-250 days.

Packet amount 1/2 lb. Minimum 5000 seeds per packet.

Seeding rate for grain crop production - 1/2 lb covers 250 square feet.
