A beautiful native perennial that blooms in August and September. Features clusters of 3-4" wide showy, bright yellow flowers and grows a statuesque 3-10' tall. A great landscape and garden plant and an important wildlife habitat species. It provides dense cover, substantial volumes of seed for birds, and nectar and pollen for pollinators. Tolerates a wide range of soils, and is drought tolerant. Easily established by seed. This native sunflower is rhizomatous and may spread vigorously, and therefore may not be suitable for small landscape plantings. Full sun. Perennial.- Planting Information

Site Selection
Sunflower is a frost sensitive annual that prefers full sun and well-drained soil with low to moderate moisture. Drought tolerant once established.
Planting
Direct seed outdoors once the danger of frost has passed. Optimum soil temperature for germination is 65-85˚F. Sow 1" deep and 4-6" apart. Seeds will sprout in 5-12 days. Thin so mature plants are 8-10" apart.
