The Gloriosa Daisy is not a true daisy, but has daisy-like flowers. It is in fact of the same species as Black-Eyed Susans. 3' tall plants produce large colorful blooms. Flowers are burnt red in the center and golden orange-yellow towards the tips. Easy to grow. Loves full sun but will tolerate partial shade. Heat and drought tolerant. A great cut flower, keeps well in floral arrangements. Biennial, but blooms in first year.
Direct seed in early spring or transplant into the garden after all danger of frost has passed. Rudbeckia benefits from cold stratification. It will need full sun and well-draining soil. Water well to ensure good germination. Once germinated, rudbeckia will need at least an inch of water per week. Typically grown for flowers. Perennial.

Site Selection
Gloriosa daisy is an annual that prefers full sun to partial shade. Plants will tolerate poor soils that are well-drained and once established, thrive in dry conditions.
Cultivation
Direct sow outdoors once the danger of frost has passed. Seed can also be started indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost and transplanted outdoors once the danger of frost has passed. Optimal soil temperatures for germination are 70-75°F. Seeds require light for germination. Sow seeds no more than 1/8" deep and 4-6" apart. Seeds will germinate in 10-30 days. Thin seedlings so mature plants are 12-24" apart.
Harvest
Gloriosa daisy flowers from summer to fall. Harvest cut flowers anytime during this flowering period.
