Crackerjack marigolds are truly stunning! Plants grow 2-3 feet tall, have fern-like leaves, and boast profuse yellow and orange blooms that grow up to 4 inches in diameter. Blooms in summer and into fall. Pungent aroma repels harmful insects.  

Crackerjack marigolds can be sown indoors 4 to 6 weeks before your last frost date and transplanted out in a location with full sun after all danger of frost has passed. They can also be direct seeded. Blooms will appear in about 75-90 days, and continue until frost if you consistently deadhead. 0.5 gram packet contains approximately 140 seeds.

Site Selection

 

Marigolds are frost sensitive annuals that prefer full sun and tolerate a wide variety of soils, including nutrient poor soils.

 

Cultivation

 

Direct sow outdoors in spring once the danger of frost has passed. Seed can also be started indoors 4-5 weeks before the last frost and transplanted outdoors after the last frost date. Sow seeds 1/2" deep and 3-4" apart. Seeds will sprout in 15-20 days. Thin seedlings so that mature plants are 18-24" apart.
