Dianthus is a biennial that prefers full sun to partial shade and rich, moist soil with good drainage.
Direct seed outdoors in late spring or sow indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost and transplant outdoors once the danger of frost has passed. Optimal soil temperature for germination is 70°F. Sow seeds 1/16"'deep and 2-4" apart. Seeds will germinate in 5-10 days. Thin seedlings to 6-10" apart. If allowed to set seed, plants will return to your garden year after year.
